How-to guide

Your Group on the district website

Most districts already have a WordPress site with WP Store Locator and The Events Calendar — often with Event Tickets and an events list shortcode or block on a What's on page. The Scout Suite plugin writes into the posts those plugins already read. You keep the public map and events list. Scout Suite stays the source of truth.

  1. Install the Scout Suite plugin

Get it from GitHub and activate Scout Suite on the district WordPress site — step by step in Installing the WordPress plugin. Keep WP Store Locator (and The Events Calendar if you want events) active alongside it.

  2. The Groups already live in Scout Suite

Each Group's name, HQ address and map pin, meeting nights and waiting-list link sit on the Group in Scout Suite. Pin the hut from Locations — a UK postcode is enough to place it.

  3. Point settings at the District

On WordPress, Settings → Scout Suite. Use the District org id and an API key that is not pinned to a single Group.

Find a Group on the public site is filled from those HQ pins — names, addresses and map locations, without typing them into WordPress twice. What's on is a normal page: The Events Calendar holds the events, and the list you already styled (shortcode or block) reads them.

  4. Sync now, then keep using the site you already have

Sync now (or hourly WP-Cron) upserts Groups as store locator posts and public events as The Events Calendar posts. Find a Group and What's on stay the plugins and theme you already styled. Create a Group or a camp in Scout Suite and it appears on the public site after the next sync.
