Equipment that needs repair
**Needs repair** means an item is waiting for work. **In repair** means the work has started. Either way it stays on the inventory and can't be loaned until it's back in service.

Edit the item and set Repair status to Needs repair. It stays on the equipment list, but it no longer appears when you start a new loan or checkout.
Log the repair
From Maintenance, choose Log Maintenance and record a Repair, with a description like replacing the burner. Add photos of the damage if you have them. Logging it marks the item In repair.
Back in service
When the work is done, set Repair status back to In service so the item can be loaned again. The maintenance record stays on the item's history.
