How-to guide

Signing in with Microsoft

Work or school accounts only. A personal Microsoft account, such as an Outlook.com or Hotmail address, can't be used with Scout Suite.

  1. What it does

Continue with Microsoft (work or school) on the sign-in page signs you in with the Microsoft account your organisation gave you. Scout Suite only asks Microsoft who you are and which email address is yours. It doesn't read your email, calendar or files.

Signing in this way doesn't give you access to any Group, District or County. People still join through an invitation or a role, as they do now.

  2. Your first sign-in

The first time you use it, Scout Suite creates your account with that email address and no access to anything yet. If you already have a Scout Suite account with the same email, read the next step.

  3. If you already have an account

Scout Suite only links a Microsoft account to an existing account automatically when Microsoft confirms that your organisation owns the email's domain. Otherwise you'll see account not linked. Sign in the usual way first, with your password, passkey or Google, then add the Microsoft account from Profile → Security.

  4. If your organisation requires sign-in

Your organisation may ask you to sign in with your Microsoft account before you can use it. When it does, Scout Suite shows a page called Link your account to continue, which says which account is needed and why.

Choose Add your Microsoft account, sign in with your work or school account, and then go back to the organisation. Until the grace period ends, you can keep using it as you did before.

Your other organisations and your family portal keep working. If an admin has excused you, you will not see this page.

  5. Add another Microsoft account

On Profile → Security, under Connected accounts, choose Add another Microsoft account and sign in with it. Each Microsoft account is listed with its email, so you can tell them apart.

Scout Suite emails you whenever a Microsoft account is linked to your account.

If Scout Suite can't link an account, Microsoft hasn't confirmed that its email belongs to your organisation. Ask your IT team to check the account, or contact support.

  6. Remove a Microsoft account

On Profile → Security, select the X beside the account under Connected accounts, then confirm. You can only remove an account if you have another way to sign in, so set a password or add a passkey first if it's your only one.

  7. If you didn't link an account

Remove it from Profile → Security straight away, then change your password if you have one. Anyone who can sign in with an account can use everything that account can access, so act quickly.
