The audit log: who changed what, and what it hides
Every change in Scout Suite leaves a line in the audit log: who made it, when, and what kind of change it was. Use it to answer questions like "who changed this member's section?" or "when was that payment voided?" This guide shows where to find it, what each line says, and what is deliberately left out.
Find the audit log
Open Settings, then Audit log, under Data. Only the Lead Volunteer, and anyone else with admin rights over group settings, can see it. Safety, GDPR and Compliance links there too.
The newest entries come first. Each page shows 50 entries.
Read a line
Each entry shows what happened (for example update or delete), the kind of record it was about, the time, and the person who made the change.
Under the entry, the changes are listed one per line, such as "status: active → left". A line that says "changed (value hidden)" tells you that a field changed, without showing the value.
In brackets you can see how the change was made. Team member means someone signed in to Scout Suite. Automatic means a scheduled job. Provider update means a message from a connected service, such as a payment or phone provider. Assistant tool means a change made through the Scout Suite assistant, on behalf of a signed-in person.
auditlogWhat is kept private
The log never shows passwords, sign-in tokens, bank or card numbers, or the credentials for phone and calling services.
Personal and health details are hidden too: names, dates of birth, contact details, medical notes, religion, ethnicity, and emergency contacts. For these, the log only says that the field changed. It does not show the old or new value.
Simple changes, such as a status or a role, are shown in full, so you can still see what changed and when.
The audit log is a record of changes, not a copy of the record. To see the current value of a detail, open the member's record.
Download it as a spreadsheet
Use Download CSV at the top of the tab to save the list as a spreadsheet. It uses the same filters as the page you are looking at.
The download has the time, the person, how the change was made, what happened, and which kind of record it was about. It does not include the change details, so nothing private is in the file.
Names are saved as plain text, so a name typed into Scout Suite cannot run a formula on your computer when you open the file.
